LOURDES
The town of Lourdes existed already in Roman times. The Romans erected the fortified castle of Mirambel, still towering above the town today from its 42-meter high rock.
From the 8th to 15th century, Lourdes was successively occupied by the Saracens, Charlemagne, Mirat, the Albigenses, the English and finally, in 1406, by the French.
Nowadays Lourdes is first and foremost one of the centres of pilgrimage in Christendom. The town’s facilities are perfectly suited to welcome pilgrims from all over the world.
